Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Base:

  • 200 g / 7 oz dark chocolate
  • 100 g / 3.5 oz butter
  • 50 g / 1.8 oz cocoa powder
  • 100 g / 3.5 oz sugar

Caramel Layer:

  • 395 g / 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 100 g / 3.5 oz brown sugar
  • 75 g / 2.6 oz butter
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup

Topping:

  • 150 g / 5.3 oz milk chocolate
  • 50 g / 1.8 oz white chocolate
  • 30 g / 1 oz caramel chips
  • 15 g / 0.5 oz crushed honeycomb

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring overhang for easy removal.
  2. Melt dark chocolate and butter together in a double boiler, stirring until smooth and glossy.
  3. Sift cocoa powder and sugar into the melted chocolate mixture, whisking until fully incorporated and creating a rich chocolate base.
  4. Press the chocolate mixture evenly into the prepared pan, creating a compact, smooth layer.
  5. Bake the chocolate base for 10-12 minutes, then remove and allow to cool completely at room temperature.
  6. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, butter, and golden syrup.
  7. Cook the caramel mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly for 10-15 minutes until it thickens and turns a golden brown color.
  8. Pour the caramel layer over the cooled chocolate base, spreading evenly and smoothing the surface.
  9. Refrigerate the slice for 1 hour to set the caramel completely.
  10. Melt milk chocolate and white chocolate separately using a double boiler method.
  11. Drizzle and swirl the melted chocolates over the caramel layer, creating an artistic pattern.
  12. Sprinkle caramel chips and crushed honeycomb over the chocolate topping for added texture and crunch.
  13. Chill the slice for an additional 30 minutes to set the chocolate topping.
  14. Remove from the refrigerator, lift out of the pan using parchment paper, and slice into squares.
  15. Serve chilled and enjoy the decadent layers of chocolate, caramel, and crunchy toppings.

Notes

  • Ensure chocolate and butter are melted gently to prevent burning or seizing, using low heat and constant stirring for a smooth, glossy texture.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute regular flour with almond or coconut flour in the chocolate base to maintain the rich, fudgy consistency.
  • Control caramel thickness by monitoring heat carefully, stirring continuously to prevent scorching and achieve a perfect golden-brown color without burning.
  • Experiment with different chocolate varieties like dark, milk, or white to customize the slice’s flavor profile and create unique taste combinations.
